Classroom Projects

CIJS gives students the tools they need to solve problems through the use of higher level thinking, rather than by rote memorization. When students are interested in what they are learning and taught the process of problem solving, then they actually understand content, which allows them to solve problems in any situation. Not only will students transition well to a different environment, but they will go into a regular classroom with more tools necessary and a higher ability to pass the state tests. Project-based curricula is becoming increasingly well-regarded and used in 21st century learning.

Lemonade Stand

In preparation for our Spring Showcase, the students learned about retail markets and then planned to make their own lemonade stand. We followed the process from farm to market, including advertising our stand.

The American Heroes Museum

We learned about what makes a hero and then researched some famous heroes from American history. To share our knowledge, we created a museum and invited our friends and families to learn from us.

Composting with Worms

We started the year brainstorming ways we could take care of our classroom and the environment. We decided that this project would benefit the whole school…
